The Collective Impact Forum is excited to offer Getting Started with Collective Impact, a two-part workshop series focused on the core components of collective impact and the role of the backbone. These workshop offerings are open for registration:

  • Session 1. Introduction to Collective Impact – Thursday, June 18. 1pm – 4pm ET
  • Session 2. Introduction to the Backbone and Collaborative Leadership – Thursday, July 16. 1pm – 4pm ET

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Are you new to collective impact and looking for a primer on the conditions that enable this work, as well as a deeper understanding of the backbone team’s role?

This summer, join Getting Started with Collective Impact, a two-part online workshop series focused on building understanding of the key conditions and practices that support collective impact, and exploring how backbone teams and collaborative leadership structures help coordinate and advance collaborative efforts.

Attendees can register for a full series pass to join both online workshops or register for a single workshop. Each workshop is three hours; registration includes a copy of the presentation and materials, as well as three months access to the recording following the session.

Who should join “Getting Started with Collective Impact”? This workshop series is designed for those who are newer to working in collaborative efforts and want to learn about the foundational practices of collective impact and the role of the backbone team.


Workshop Descriptions and Focus

Session 1: Introduction to Collective Impact

Date & Time: Thursday, June 18. 1pm – 4pm ET

If you are new to collective impact work and looking for an explanation of the approach,we invite you to join, “Introduction to Collective Impact.”

This three-hour workshop will provide an overview of the collective impact approach.

This session will cover:

  • The five key conditions of collective impact and why they matter
  • Practical ways to center equity
  • How to create a shared plan focused on results
  • Common collaborative challenges and how to navigate them

Workshop Leads: Jennifer Splansky Juster, Executive Director, Collective Impact Forum; Paul Schmitz, Senior Advisor, Collective Impact Forum, and CEO, Leading Inside Out.

Session 2: Introduction to the Backbone and Collaborative Leadership

Date and Time: Thursday, July 16. 1pm – 4pm ET

If you are new to the backbone team and looking to deepen your understanding of the backbone team’s role in moving collective impact work forward, we invite you to join Introduction to the Backbone and Collaborative Leadership.

This three-hour workshop will deep dive into the backbone role, and other roles and structures that move the work forward.

This session will cover:

  • Defining the backbone team and its role
  • How backbone leadership differs from more traditional leadership
  • The mindset shifts and qualities needed to lead on a backbone team
  • Other roles and structures that enable collective impact work

Workshop Rates

  • Full Series Pass (2 Workshops): $350
  • Individual Workshop: $199

Group Registration Discounts: There is a 10% discount for groups of 10 or more people who are interested in registering for the full series only. Please contact tracy.timmons-gray@collectiveimpactforum.org for information about this discounted rate. Group discounts are not available for single workshops.

Scholarships: A limited number of reduced-price scholarships are available for each single workshop. This scholarship would reduce a single workshop registration from $199 to $75. To apply for a reduced-price scholarship, please complete the scholarship application by the date listed for each workshop below.

  • Introduction to Collective Impact: Scholarship applications due by Friday, May 29, 2026. Apply for a Scholarship.
  • Introduction to Backbone and Collaborative Leadership: Scholarship applications due by Friday, June 26, 2026. Apply for a Scholarship.

Registration Deadlines:

To join either the full series or an individual workshop, you must register by the dates below. If the workshop reaches maximum capacity, registration will be closed before these dates. We encourage you to register soon to reserve your spot.

Cancellations and Refunds: Refunds are available, minus the cost for processing fees and taxes, as long as registrants contact us ahead of the cancellation deadline. The cancellation deadlines are:

  • Full Series Pass: Friday, June 12, 2026
  • Introduction to Collective Impact: Friday, Friday, June 12, 2026
  • Introduction to the Backbone and Collaborative Leadership: Wednesday, July 10, 2026

How do I register for this workshop series? Please visit our Eventbrite page to register

Is “Getting Started with Collective Impact” in-person or online? This is an online learning series. Zoom Meeting will be used for all sessions.

What time zone are the workshops listed in? Each Session is listed in Eastern Time (US & Canada), running from 1pm – 4pm ET. If you are joining from another time zone, please note the time difference and when you should join.

What will each workshop entail? Each 3-hour workshop will include a mix of presentation, personal reflection, Q&A, and small group discussions. There will be a short break planned during each workshop.

What accessibility practices will this series include? Zoom auto-captions will be enabled for each workshop. Ahead of the workshop, we will send copies of any presentation or handouts that the workshop will use. After the workshop, we will share recordings of the session as well as any referenced resources. Please reach out to tracy.timmons-gray@collectiveimpactforum.org if you need other accessibility measures not mentioned above.

What’s the difference between the Full Series Pass and Single Workshop registration? If you sign up for the full “Getting Started with Collective Impact” workshop series pass, you are signing up for both the June 18 and July 16 workshops. If you sign up for a single workshop in the series, you will be registering for a specific workshop.

Will workshops be recorded? The workshop presentation and full group Q&A will be recorded and shared after the workshop with those who registered. Breakout group discussions that occur during the workshop will not be recorded. Recordings will be shared within one week after the workshop.

Are there Group Rates available? Yes. If you have 10 or more people interested in registering for the complete series of two workshops ($350), there is a 10% discount available. Please contact tracy.timmons-gray@collectiveimpactforum.org to access this discount. Single workshops in the series are not eligible for a group discount.

Can my team sign-up with one registration? No. Each person will require their own registration as this is an active workshop where attendees will be broken up into small groups during the workshop for discussion during the session.

How do I request a refund? Registered participants who decide to cancel their participation in either the full “Foundations of Collective Impact” workshop series or a single workshop will receive a refund of their registration fee minus the processing fees and related taxes. All refund requests should be emailed to tracy.timmons-gray@collectiveimpactforum.org. We are unable to process refunds after a refund deadline has passed.

For a full series pass refund, requests for cancellations will be honored through Friday, June 12, 2026.

Single Workshops:

If you register for a single workshop, these are the refund deadlines. These are only for those who registered for a single workshop and not a full series pass.
