FUNDER COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

Overview of the Collective Impact Funder Community of Practice

Are you a funder who wants to deepen your understanding of collective impact and improve your practice of catalyzing change through investing in collective impact? The Collective Impact Forum, an initiative of FSG and the Aspen Institute Forum for Community Solutions, invites you to join a community of practice (COP) for funders of collective impact. We are delighted to be in our third year as a learning community with more than 45 grantmaking organizations.

Community of Practice Goals

  • Networking and building relationships with other collective impact funders
  • Learning about the strategies and nuances for funders engaging in collective impact, and how to most effectively support collective impact
  • Improving the practice of grantmakers as funders and partners in collective impact

Focus of the Community of Practice

The COP is designed to address collective impact topics that
are relevant across multiple issue areas (e.g., education, health, economic development). We also divide into sub-groups during calls and meetings to go deeper on specific issue areas
(e.g., collective impact in education), topics (e.g., evaluating collective impact), or stage (e.g., early, mid, and late stage
of collective impact).

Highlights of participating in the COP

  • In person convenings
    • One annual field-wide convening, open to COP members and other funders, and other funders, backbone leaders, and collective impact practitioners. The last three convenings were held in Aspen (2014), New Orleans (2015), and Seattle (2016). The 2017 Collective Impact Convening will be held in Boston on May 23-25, 2017.
    • Two additional one-day, in-person learning events for COP members per year. The next one-day meeting will be held February 9, 2017, in Washington, DC (with dinner the night before). We will also host an in-person COP meeting in Fall 2017 (date/location TBD).
  • Webinars and peer learning calls during non-convening months.
